   Ok #SVN / #SourceControl tooters, how do we take the web archive of an old SVN server and stand it back up locally, so we can get our actual project files back out of it?

   @joe_wintergreen is dealing with files downloaded from Dreamhost (used to do an SVN service but just stopped one day with no warning), so he's got the server data downloaded, but now it's like- what do?

   I'm guessing "set up a local SVN server and copy files in", but does version of server matter? Where do we copy the files? Also ideally we do this on Windows not Linux, heh.

     @glassbottommeg @joe_wintergreen you can also use git to locally clone the SVN repo, since Git can also work as an SVN client that can work on local dirs.

     git svn clone file://(unix path)

     On Windows with Git Bash, you can use the pwd command to see the full path of the current folder.

     Eg, if the repo is in C:/Users/blabla/svn/a, then if you open git bash there and run pwd it would return "/c/Users/blabla/svn/a"; you'd append that to file://

     eg. git svn clone file:///c/Users/blabla/svn/a

     @glassbottommeg @joe_wintergreen that will clone a server copy of the repo to the current working directory, I'd recommend making a subfolder first to clone in to before running the command

     @glassbottommeg @joe_wintergreen This technique also works with git repositories and basically any form of adapter you may plug in to git to make it work with another source version control.

     @glassbottommeg @joe_wintergreen yup, git was made to replace SVN for Linux as such it fully natively understands SVN repos and you can create git-svn hybrid repositories to seperate code and assets and such.
