   Episodes 1–3: Ok, this is better than I thought. Like if Miyazaki filmed “They live” instead of “Spirited away” w. Looking closely, it’s stuffed with allegories. Now my brain tries to decipher hidden metaphors in every scene.

     Also they cut a character from night patrol bit, so if you just try to jump to the manga it makes no sense later.

     @Zerglingman That the plot is stitched was clear as day. Not sure I’m going to start the manga, Shadows house was just something from the bottom of my backlog, and I didn’t have high hopes from the beginning. Post something from the manga?

     The most amusing observation is that Kate, the designated fighter for workers’ freedom, wears red. And she has red flowers in her hair. Bolsheviks also liked red flowers, and red dianthus (carnation) was their secret sign, which then became a symbol. To this day they bring dianthuses to the memorials of Soviet-era figures (irrelevant of their ideological leaning). Kate’s tie-ups for hair have roses, but they simply stand out on the black silhouette so much, that I almost voice my laughter sometimes – how the nobles around not see this flaming communist walking among them.

     About metaphors. That there is one here felt evident, it was just under the fingertips, yet I couldn’t quite point it out. Then I realised that it might be a pun: the English words ‘thought’ and ‘soot’ sound the same to Japanese ear: “sôto”. Now if “soot remover” is “thought remover”…

     It’s worth to watch, but overall is a 6/10 show. The visuals are entertaining, the beginning excites your brain cells with “what may it actually be”, but then it quickly becomes so plain and stupid… and I’d say, neglected by the creators (in terms of storywriting), that it’s better marathoned (which I did).
     
     It doesn’t pass even as an the entry-level show for kids, that might give them a “what a sweet world… OH SHIT” kind of feel. All right angle corners are rounded with a diameter of a soup plate. It is outward infuriating, how the first half shows injustice here and there, and then nothing is done about it. Nothing. Typical boomer female attitude “we witnessed this, and that’s the utmost extent of our involvement, now let’s switch to something pleasing”. Fuck this shit.
     
     Fuck your wannabe expert tea brewing sessions. Fuck your boasting with bean knowledge of the 18th century European parks, which irrelevant to the show. Don’t put a samovar on the table if you have no fucking idea how it works. And I haven’t even begun recounting smaller flaws, and there’s a ton of them.
