     @awl @parker Not many ways to deliver ordnance at the time, larger bomb loads required land-based runways for the bigger aircraft.

     I think F4’s are accurate, one of the guys who crashed was in one and a lot of the later prop aircraft from the war ended up finishing with pretty impressive strike capability, considering their origins

     @parker I truly think the US in the 1940’s and 1950’s was just as inept at war-making as they are now. The whole winning of WWII was fighting a severely depleted enemy alongside a dozen or so allied nations

     @awl @parker We did have some cool options in 45/46 but they didn’t end up adopted, they had so many dive bombers already there wasn’t much point to add to the avenger. I assume the heavier stuff was too slow for the first waves in the assault, would have been easy pickings.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot didn’t think about the logistics of that. Just saw Skyraiders in the same scene and thought it weird. No army could afford to pigeon-hole an aircraft for one role only, I suppose, in dire need. @parker
