   I don't normally shill for stuff like this, but I would love to see a push to get *people you know* on fediverse. Don't just shill on twitter to get a fedi account. That doesn't work and it's how you end up with a bunch of garbage posters. If you're in a chat group, just share screenshots of good posts. I convinced two of my friends (who stuck around) to join that way.
   
   The thing to focus on is fun, not "free speech", although not having a bunch of dystopian tranny bots with the ban hammer at the ready is certainly a plus. I think people are realizing that the musk takeover didn't really change anything. As that reality sets in, it's a good time to push for a place where you can actually have fun without paranoia.

     I've tried to get the cool people I know on the fedi. Only a few came over and made excuses for their Twitter (crack) addiction.

     Being decentralized keeps the place from suffering the Gab problem as a certain person mentioned a while back.
     
     This is why imageboard posters didn't embrace Gab, but a bunch of ecelebs had "backup" accounts there that they didn't touch. It's why the Musk Derangement Syndrome Twitter addicts can't handle the fedi either, they quickly wind up finding that the people they were conditioned to hate by Twitter exist there and have for years.

     Its basically if Twitter and Forums fucked, Pleroma (formerly GNU Social and so on, also Misskey) kind of built that mentality, with a protocol like Email

     @nekofag @PhenomX6 @collappsar @RustyCrab Forums would be perfection if they could just adopt the ActivityPub model. I would love to have a self hosted account that can pop in and out of different federated discussion forums with the classical subforums breakdown. It’s almost too bad that so much of fedi design is trying to ape Twitter.

     @PhenomX6 @wrongthink @collappsar that last sentence is a prime example of the personality that ruins these platforms. "Gain traction" is a red flag and a sure sign that somebody is going to just be a politisperging, news feed posting, depression bot with nothing interesting to say.

     Or worse; an e-celeb who just wants those numbers to go up. This is who most of the people bitching about the fedi are now, usually without touching it. They want those shiny numbers to go up as opposed to interactions that are worthwhile.
     
     Look at Twitter now, it's not uncommon for someone to post art, and even if it gets like 50-60 reposts it'll only have maybe 5 replies at most. You might as well have bots retweeting it.
