   So I just read in La Presse that PlasticMan Zuckerberg has started a new social media platform imitating Twitter. Knowing the callousness of this man and how he feels he is entitled to grab user data and sell it to make more dough, not a chance in hell I’m joining that.

   If anyone is curious or interested, it’s called Threads.

     (Rumour has it that instance admins will have to signs their T&Cs.)

     @Flick @Chronic-Yonic the tl is all a buzz. I imagine part of their terms are to allow ads or something. I'd be fine never seeing it. I'm surprised how lively the discussion around it is. They aren't even federated and people are already talking about fediblock threads addition.

     @thatguyoverthere @Chronic-Yonic Meta has, per the BBC, said no ads for at least a year.

     As I said, I doubt we’ll ever see any of the content from this side of the FediBlock.

     Yeah I don't even care about it. I don't suspect it will change my experience much.

     @Flick @thatguyoverthere To me, the problem isn’t the ads, you can always add a plugin to block those in your desktop browser (if you use a cellphone app, that’s another story), it’s the collection of data that Zuckerberg gleefully hands out to third-parties for added revenue and that goes for the cell app as well.

     @Chronic-Yonic @Flick I'd be surprised if they actually federate with the full network. More than likely they will institute some kind of filter list of their own (meta-fediblock) because if some of what comes up in my timeline shows up in theirs, the advertisers will pull out anyway LMAO

     @Flick @thatguyoverthere @Chronic-Yonic Why would anyone use Facebook's shitty Mastodon knockoff with ads and tracking when they could just get on an open registration instance and view the same content (or more) for free? Zuck seems to not get that in order for EEE to work, you have to actually embrace the technology, at some point.

     Most people don’t care that they’re being tracked, moderated and commodified as long as they get a “free” service that all their friends are also using.

     @Flick @thatguyoverthere @Chronic-Yonic But they already are on Instagram and presumably like using it. What is "threads" other than "Instagram but with more words and less pictures"? At BEST this will only cannibalize FB's existing business. Most likely, though it'll end up like Google+ and just ignored by the millions of users that got "free" accounts.
