     blocking them doesn't work unless you blackhole their domains instead of simply blocking them (see what FSE and some of the schizo troon instances like treehouse.systems do)

     I'll go schorched earth on their domains after work. It would have been nice to have peered users who are actual regular people who aren't autists and mental illness as their personality types.
     
     Regardless I don't like with fuckbook or tw*tter. That being said they are probably going to just use whitelist federation and required peered servers to accept TOS, so this whole defederation is probably not needed. Additionally if you think just defederating them is going to prevent them from scraping your PUBLICLY AVALIABLE posts, you're daft.

     @EricZhang456 @splitshockvirus Doesn't matter unless your instance is in the whitelist since the server would simply reject anything outside of it, including the internal fetching account.

     You know what I think?
     
     I think all these platforms are getting AP or federation compatible, not because they want to be on fediverse, but because they want to communicate with each other.
     
     Like blue sky and threads will probably work out a protocol handshake or something, tumblr at one point said they were getting AP support. If they all want to stay relevant with each other, cause nobody really wants to sign into multiple apps/platforms.
     
     Like I think they really don't give a shit about federating with loliconaryan1488@groomed.children.ranch or whoever.
     
     I think fedi users just have spotlight effect.

     Yeah that's what I was thinking, and I'm glad I actually setup a proper iptables firewall to deal with this. But it's still annoying to do anything firewall related.

     My theory is it's the Mastodon Network (tm) effect, you can say you have a bunch of users when you hitch yourself to Mastodon.
     
     Which is exactly what Mastodon did with GNU Social in 2016.

     The thing that the others have in their favor is the illusion of being a singular network like Twitter has right now. Instance blocking doesn't happen, instead schizos use blocking scripts.
