@WashedOutGundamPilot Goodluck and make sure she doesn’t crash
@Twoinchdestroya She’s at least competent enough but she’s money-grubby and keeps picking fights with people, being a dick to them, and then chortling to me about “that old man had such an ego, I just had to destroy him”
@nugger AHHHHHHHHHHHHH it’s the insurance companies, they refuse to approve a single pilot ferry job for twins these days ahhhhhhhhh
@ForbiddenDreamer She’s an outside contractor, we just pay her whenever we don’t have the personnel to make things work when we have a job in the region. All the cool guys are off on other work, so I drew the short straw.
I now understand why this job suddenly came up for grabs
It’s been a few months since I worked with her and she spends most of her time talking about how:
“I wouldn’t have done this if I knew the plane wouldn’t have AC, FUUUUUUCK THIS”
“I’m only in this for the money, the pay’s good and you get to travel, but I just can’t wait to get to Delta. I know, everyone tells me to go for skywest but why settle?”
(dude coming in straight in to land) “uh…..landing aircraft you know there’s a traffic pattern here, right? You think you’re…..special?”
“ha, I HATE old guys like that. They have such an ego, now he’s bitching at me for calling him on his shit….men in this business are so fragile”
And that was just the first leg. I don’t think I’ve ever flown with someone who actually goes looking to start fights over the radio…if I have to fly with one of these types more than 1x/q I’m tapping out and flying in el salvador
@GabeLakmann @nugger It’s really quite depressing that the majority of piston twins are so anemic they can barely keep blueline when new. Fly a brand new Baron with one 25 years its senior and outside the screens in the panel things haven’t changed much.
That’s why everyone with a brain jumped into turboprop singles. PT6 remains undefeated
@GabeLakmann @nugger It’s in a weird spot. I handle the low end piston market most of the time, but there’s a giant chasm in price between a capable jet and a turboprop. There are some “affordable’ VLJs but they aren’t popular, and even end up more embarrassing than a king air when the owner wants to be taken seriously.
Most of the time the only guys buying are extreme boomers, so they’re slow to change their purchases over time. That’s this delivery, dude paid a lot of money for a late model Baron without realizing he coudl just as easily dropped about the same amount of money on an older turboprop Mooney. Very diff. mechanics, yeah, but I doubt he’ll be maintaining it himself. Businesses are also in a weird funk, lots overbought in 2020-21 because airline travel sucked so bad. I foresee some cheap gulfstreams on the way when they have to downsize again
@GabeLakmann @nugger We talk about “ramp appeal” but it’s actually a big factor. Guy today was just going to use his new toy to jet around the state, explore a bit, and take the wife to eat across the county. He might have thought the twin is a great look (and it’s a nice, handsome A/C), that has better presence and panache when bringing people along for a ride.
Maybe he just looked at the ongoing maintenance headaches inherent to a turboprop, and figured a 2,00 hr piston overhaul is easier than the $1m PT6 overhaul.
