As a genshin impact player I feel so incredibly at home with the new daily twitter limit. I never expected them to implement resin in social media platforms, but this truly makes it feel so much more familiar
@Meemoo I'm not tryin' 2 be chinese overlord here but if you actually need to read 300 tweets/fedi posts per day you might wanna consider doing some sorta hobby. 😂
@ehhh@Meemoo Keep in mind... If you use twitter to find hentai or good art. Scrolling past 300 tweets can take a matter of minutes. Not to mention that at least for now, replies under a post count as posts too. So if you scroll through comments it is even faster gone.
They already killed embeds on other sites and now it's harder to access news for games or other things because most companies post on twitter and their posts won't show up anymore
@JP_Loyalist@Meemoo I don't use twitter that much unless an artist insists on posting only there. pixiv is still better because twitter compresses image quality.
I think people are overreacting when this is stated to be a temporary limit. Like... Just go touch grass for a bit?
@JP_Loyalist@ehhh I already don't use twitter and instead get news through discord but I hope this forces companies to make updates and news through their own sites or another place because having to deal with twitter is annoying
@Meemoo@ehhh The site is 100 percent going to die. Even if he removes the rate limit, the knowledge that it can happen so suddenly will make people "jump ship" so to speak.
@Meemoo@ehhh I mainly want a new site that is not skeb because for comms I prefer to have the level of interactivity with artists when they work on my idea. I hate the idea of ordering and then hearing nothing until it is done.
@locagainstwall@Meemoo@ehhh It is and isn't. I see all the value but I wish there was an actual solid competitor because we have nothing as massive as twitter at current.
@JP_Loyalist@ehhh I don't care if this place doesn't become the "main thing", normies can fuck themselves. but it would be nice if the people I know and Japanese artists migrate here
@Meemoo@ehhh I don't think fedi will ever be the "main thing". I think one of two things will happen. 1) elon reverts the change and people forgive and forget
2) he does not remove the change and people either brute force twitter anyway or migrate back to tumblr.
@Meemoo@JP_Loyalist@ehhh I mean sure Twitter is still the main thing for a lot of artists but misskey is pretty damn popular among the JP artists already and you can follow them all from here
As for the people you know, try convincing them to join us here? Worth a shot at least
@JP_Loyalist@Meemoo@ehhh Well yes, it doesn't really matter what instance. They can try a few and see what they like and still follow people from other instances. As long as they don't join one that has a 10 page blocklist (though those are usually lefty faggot instances not worth joining anyway so)
@locagainstwall@Meemoo@ehhh Varis has a pretty poor reputation so Might be better to just try and get them on fedi instead of specifically varis. Worst case they get jumpy and take what people say at face value.
@Meemoo@locagainstwall@ehhh I think that unfortunatly because we are "transphobic, homophobic, racist, slur using, lolicons" that scares people off. (that is what people say about varis on other fedis)
@JP_Loyalist@Meemoo@ehhh That's just called filtering. Or what, you wanted to befriend some trannies? :zt_laugh: I mean shit, that's the best part. You can throw out all the slurs you like if you encounter a tranny somewhere, you won't get banned here
@JP_Loyalist@ehhh@locagainstwall most people on twitter tried out Fedi during it's inception with Mastodon so the whole fediblock and older instances like "anitwitter" getting mass blocked and deleted gave Fedi a VERY bad reputation
People still site that period as their reason for not wanting to join here
@JP_Loyalist@Meemoo@ehhh Well they won't get banned for no reason like they do on Twitter as long as they join the right instances :wat: Or hell, host their own instance.
They could at least join misskey or something and start uploading there as well as Twitter and build a following. Hell if they're well known on Twitter already it's not like they need to start anew, even if the rerach is not that big. But either way, they could then always fall back to something else when Twitter finally shits the bed
@Meemoo@ehhh@locagainstwall Yeah. I think people want a MASSIVE connected network for promoting art, which does make sense. Fedis are all about being decentralized right? So people looking to grow would stay away from here I think.
@ehhh@Meemoo You are under reacting. This is not a "touch grass" issue. Most companies use twitter to provide updates. Think of any MMO ever or any online game, they use twitter to give service updates.
If you get rate limited because of that or because you want to see what is trending, then that is shit.
If viewing twitter for 5 minutes is a "touch grass" amount of time then you are tripping. Full offense.
I think both of you are valid. A lot of small real life groups/communities and a lot of businesses only use things like Facebook and Twitter. Fewer people maintain their own website. Facebook is bad enough since a lot of people may not realize their pages aren't public.
People have expected Twitter to be public, and now it's not (I wonder how this will affect embeds).
It is peoples' fault for not maintaining a real website ... but the web is just so shit now. It's impossible to search for anything on any major search engine. You only get the top ten shit results and only five pages of it. Google/DDG/Bing are worse than Buzzfeed now.
Maybe this will finally force people back to the open web, but I kinda doubt it. Reddit and Twitter have shown 2023 is the year of the API war.
@MordredSimp@JP_Loyalist@ehhh@rlier23 the line between canny and uncanny has been blurred so much that I doubt the authenticity of almost everything now
The one silver lining is that Ai shit is easy to tell apart from real stuff because of the coloring and artstyle
they just pretend to like it now because it's trendy.
literally all we did back then was post anime girls and mess around with each other; most didn't even know about the federated timeline, the shitposting was exclusively local.
@ehhh@JP_Loyalist@Meemoo@locagainstwall it's true. The cattle are incapable of functioning on any website without strict moderation or a mob that acts as such.
it's like watching migratory birds flocking north and south during the different seasons, except rather than based on that it is due to whichever CEO they hate more at the moment. 😂
