@Daikonradish@phnt >No internet >Finally start on backlog >Caligula Effect Overdose looks cool >Play >Holy shit this game sucks. >Refund period ended like a year ago.
@Daikonradish@phnt Caligula Effect is a JRPG. It got a little hype because some Persona staff worked on it or something. The game looks and sounds interesting on paper. Until you actually play it. The battle system is another thing that sounds really cool on paper but the execution is a giant pain in the ass.
@Tamamo@Daikonradish I'm not gonna lie, recently I've been wary of buying games because you can never tell how pozzed they are. For instance, this one. Looks cool, it's in my wishlist for quite a while, it's in an OK-ish discounted price, and has generally very good reviews. But there is a non-zero chance I'll be hit in the face with some "this is a trans allegory" bullshit at some point in game, and I really don't want to support this kind of shit, neither have it staining my library.
I still remember when a friend of mine convinced me to buy Disco Elysium, and he showed me the stuff of the game and it was pretty nice, so I did get it. And when I realized the devs were a bunch of commie cocksuckers and the dialogue would be that shit until the end, it was too late to ask for a refund.
Besides, I still have a ton of games that I know are OK in my library and I've never played (mostly because I waste my time finding shitty MMORPGs, checking out stupid coop games with my friends that are promptly abandoned, or replaying games I've already played and feel comfy with).
@pettanko@Daikonradish@Tamamo and that's how they get you. I mean, I said I tend to waste my time not playing the games I bought, but still, I wager even "hardcore players" don't play all the games they get on Steam sale, they just see the huge discounts, buy a bunch of games that they never would consider buying otherwise, and then suddenly they have 10, 15 new games in their library. They'll probably install 1 or 2 of them, play them, and when they are done they'll either go back to the usual games they play, or there will be already another Steam sale and they'll buy another 10 games they'll barely play.
@pettanko@Daikonradish@Tamamo I was checking my wishlist, and there are a lot of games that I put in there on a whim, and now that I'm looking back I scratch my head and wonder wtf was I thinking.
@Daikonradish@Tamamo@pettanko OK, this is one that's in my wishlist for quite a while, and I know why. It's pretty cool. It's based on the Steve Jackson's solo RPG story books, and it really plays like you were doing the book thing, but with automated rolls and shit. The complete collection is what you want, and the bundle has an even higher discount.
Ignore the fact Steam says it's similar do Disco Elysium, Steam is dumb as shit and says it just because both are in the "RPG" cathegory.
