   I always liked this guy, TBH. He was a total dickhead, yeah, but he was a great way to make the unit come together in unanimous cohesion against a common foe while pushing the boys harder than anyone else before the untested, brand-new kids entered battle for the first time. He’s a solid trainer….just not a combatant.

   I think that’s probably the one of the better training systems, where the introduction is hard, super strict, and absolutely 100% to regulation, so guys at least get a taste of regulatory ‘perfection’ before going out into battle and rolling back their rule following to a more sane and achievable standard.

   I was curious about this guy, turns out his life didn’t turn out so good.

     In the end poor sobel got the usual dues of ZOG, though it went right into one of their own yiddish guys.

     It’s one of those things that you only realize later, but the hard driving drill instructor actually saved these dudes. While other companies were playing around and watching movies, Easy company was running 10 milers in full packs without water to rehydrate. Unlike the other teams, they were becoming accustomed to suffering and building their endurance.

     Like so many things in life, you hate it in the moment, but years later when you enjoy the benefits of your work, you say “I hated it at the time but now I wouldn’t have it any other way”

     @idea_enjoyer Not combat leadership, no, but he was a great trainer. Starting off with a perfectionist hard ass makes you better once you end up in the field, you get more preparation out of the training phase and end up being able to hander it later should you work under another stickler.

     Also interesting that Sobel’s hippie leftist son is the one who goes to bat for him today, fighting the unlikable attitude so many picked up from Band of Brothers’ airing in 2001. Kind of fun to think that guy ruined his relationship with his veteran dad and now gets to see everything they both fought for - his father unknowingly, him knowingly - turn everything he loves into rot before his very eyes.

     Seems like an overwhelming amount from anecdotal experience
