Piloting is the simplest part, which they probably screwed up pressing to make use of a marginal wx day anyways.

     There’s no way you can cite inexperience as a valuable thing when you’re dealing with stuff like this. There’s a place for hiring the 25 yo with fresh Ideas and a virgin mind unsoiled by negativity - and it’s not designing, building, and operating deep sea equipment. Why no have a teenager design a plane or slap together a commercial space station if you have so much faith in “fresh” ideas?

If you're using certified parts they also come with their own recommended/mandatory service life time before overhaul or replacement. This is how we do it in commercial aviation and with certified aircraft.

     DSV Alvin from the 1960s has something like 5000+ cycles on it. Is that a lot? I'm not sure if we know given how few vessels exist.

Given the haphazard build of this guy’s shitbox, I doubt he ran it through 1,000 cycles of expensive supercomputer time to see where it would fail. In the old days we have smarter materials guys who really padded out their designs just to be sure. I’ve seen tin cans designed in the 40’s that were built to stay together under more than 20Gs.

     Hell, the last little shitbox sport plane I was messing with had an ultimate load limit of +6, with a service limit of +4 G. They know it CAN take a lot more than you could conceivably put it through in normal operation. Same principle

     Young people don’t bring a lot to the table, they can be hard workers, but they gotta be willing to learn….these ones were not. You don’t get to be the project leader at 25, you don’t get to have your own drafting table on the factory floor when you’re with the company at 25. You work your way up and expand your understanding.

     My friend just barely got to be a chief engineer at a manufacturer - he’s 54. He’s been working there since getting his master’s at 26 yo. He’s only NOW designing parts and writing up his own drawing numbers, and he’s STILL learning stuff about the platform, about the line, and about his designs. You’re acting like it’d be acceptable to replace him w/ a bunch of college nerds who’ve never held a job, which is utterly laughable.
