@kuon @ceo_of_monoeye_dating @Jim @Kinochet @Rasterman Wasn't Hitler not available that day to shake hands with the victors in general? And didn't Hitler still treat Owens better than FDR?

@ArdainianRight @ceo_of_monoeye_dating @Jim @Kinochet @Rasterman On the first day, Hitler shook hands with all the German winners, but like a preschool teacher when you try to give your friends gifts, the Olympic officials demanded he shake hands with all winners or no one at all.
Owens was treated in the media as a hero, but he was basically discarded as soon as he served his purposes for propaganda, including by FDR. Owens would say that his treatment by the Germans was better than how he was treated when he got back to America, and that the greatest applause he ever received was from the Germans in attendance. He didn't have any direct interaction with Hitler, and Hitler wasn't able to, according to the rules he was given. I have not seen Jesse Owens say nice things about Hitler in particular, only the Germans as a group and specific German athletes he competed with. It is said that Hitler gave him a salute, but I didn't hear about Owens recounting this, and I can't imagine he would have saw it.
