I talked a bit about the difference in the problem of localization between manga, anime, and games in the last Weebnats, and I think I have more clarified thoughts now, basically it all comes down to human capital:
-games are the worst because gamergate caused a purge of all non-woke ideologues from the entire industry. Anyone who would put their dedication to the craft above their woke politics simply isn’t employed there anymore.
-official anime subtitles are done by overworked and underpaid wagies so rather than the full on trannylations of games you usually just get poor translations because of sloppiness. Dubs are made by rejects who couldn’t make it in Hollywood so they want to use anime as a canvas for their C tier creative talents. They also are woke retards.
-official manga translatiors mostly still are drawn from the fan translation scene where to stand out from the crowd you actually need to be good at the job of translation. If the pool of talent is lowering in quality (and it seems to be) then that’s a reflection of manga fans decreasing in quality generally, becoming more accepting of bullshit woke translations. It’s probably too late but it might be worth gatekeeping manga even harder to slow the decline (it’s certainly too late for anime and video games)

@tengumatingpress @WashedOutGundamPilot @SerfnUSA Depends on the kind of genderbending going on. If it's something like, a girl and a boy swap bodies or something, that's fine and a very old trope. It's more about "suddenly my best friend is a hot girl so is it still homo?" or "I'm a gross otaku who played a loli in this game and now I've been reincarnated into a loli myself". I think these kinds of developments are extremely disturbing.

@Giga_Vril_Breaker @tengumatingpress @SerfnUSA Guys forget they're getting older though, and the majority of anime is pulp. It's supposed to be a guilty pleasure. We've got this weird idea that as we grow the industry should be getting more respectable and sophisticated, for some reason.
The super classic stuff, the high quality cinema pieces are outliers. It's always been weird untermenchen feed of outcasts, I just take it for what it is and if it breaks the mold and has more than 12 objects in a scene figure I'm coming out ahead. (Granted, I don't watch much of it, or anything for that matter)

@WashedOutGundamPilot @tengumatingpress @SerfnUSA In any chosen decade anime has always had run of the mill by the dozen unoriginal shows coming out, far in excess compared to very good anime. You had dumb ecchi comedies even in the 80s and 90s. But there IS something to be said about the schlock isekai post 2010s craze and the progressive degeneration inevitably being heavy on the tranny/genderswap side.
Just this past season there were 2 or 3 isekais about a guy being transported to another world and being a hot babe now. Very offputting.

@Giga_Vril_Breaker @WashedOutGundamPilot @SerfnUSA I'm not really sure if I can point out genderbend shit as inherently pozzed because that's been around for a while, and Ranma 1/2 & Maze TV don't feel like propaganda. I haven't watched the shows you're referring to though, maybe there's something offputting about them

@SerfnUSA At this point anime as a medium is utter trash tbh, just adaptations of bottom-of-the-barrel light novels. At least manga that aren't adapting light novels still has gems coming out
-
@tengumatingpress @SerfnUSA For oldfags, anime has been mostly trash since around 2010s,sadly. Ancientfags would say since 2005 thereabouts.

@Giga_Vril_Breaker @tengumatingpress @WashedOutGundamPilot “Suddenly my best friend is a hot girl so is it still homo?” Is very much not a recent development in manga/anime
