These guys probably thought they were being normal but they were actually following female protocol, as instilled by a lifetime of female teachers & moms instilling the distinctly feminine form of social interaction.
Guys are weird, it’s just a thing you have to break out of your brothers. Having autistic weirdos who are super enthusiastic can be helpful, but you have to have the uncomfortable talk with them.
“Hey man, you’re being a little weird. I like your enthusiasm but just relax a little bit, have you ever been around here before? You don’t need to talk all the time, it’s fine man, you sound nervous.”
Then just look out for him like he’s a little kid you’re worrying about. Give him praise when he does better and makes headway on being healthy. Shutting up and giving your friend the side eye is what the roasties across the gym do. You can go to that if you’re at work or the guy seems like a landmine you don’t want to set off.
