I do wonder sometimes how many mainstream web sites are just loosely held together with the digital equivalent of sellotape…
“C:\Booking System\UpdatedSunwayCode”, you say 👀

To be fair, I don’t know how anyone can run a web site on a Windows machine and sleep well at night.
I mean, I’m not an anxious person but if anything was to give me random panic attacks in the middle of the night…
(As far as I’m concerned, Windows belongs safely trapped in a VM where it can’t harm itself or anything else and you boot it up whenever you need to test something because you don’t want to abandon the poor souls forced into using it for one reason or other… and that’s about it.)
(Also, the fact I’m writing about an error on a travel web site instead of continuing to search for a trip probably explains why we haven‘t had a proper holiday in ages again.)
🙊
@ipg Yep. Major travel web site here in Ireland.
@aral worse, an outdated ASP.NET web server on a Windows machine, on a sensitive (i assume) production website...
@aral Yikes, it's still happening when you land on the site directly. UpdatedSunwayCode indeed!
@mwenge Just sent them an email with the link to forward to their web team *smh* :)
@lolbat That should be the default behaviour for any web platform/framework but who knows 🤷♂️
@aral Why do devs ship ASP apps that report details like that? Can't you reroute to an error page that doesn't do that on a production server?
@carcosa Programming language? Sounds complicated :)
@aral Eh. I'm not a Windows fan, but that's a null pointer exception, one of the most common types of errors in mainstream programming languages, not something Windows specific. I'd point the finger at the language (C#) more than the platform it's running on.
The real incompetence here is not having a custom error screen on public facing code. The path reveal is for where it was compiled, not where it's running, fwiw.
