   Guys did not like this take but the kids probably need to understand it’s a weakness we all share. Gamergate was basically the entire millennial male cohort BEGGING the jews to just let them have their goyslop and leave them be.

   “just let us have vidya without the propaganda and we’ll never cause any trouble for you, promise!!!!”

   I’m even a little worried, if we ever did make our own entrancing media world then guys would be even more prone to wasting their entire lives. Even now it’s distressing to me to see guys who otherwise have their heads on right waste a couple dozen hours a week on pointless, valueless video games instead of building themselves up for the future. Imagine how much worst things would be if video games were actually good

     Interesting to see how pissy people are at that. We all have these addictions, I know we won’t be able to kick them very easily, but seeing knee-jerk hostility to someone saying “you’re an addict, man” always rankles me.

     We all got something. Admitting that I spend too much time half-working on the computer instead of knocking out my work and spending time w/ family is a problem for me, probably similar to how most guys video game or spend all their time watching tvslop. Admitting it’s a problem is step 1 to actually fixing it.

     @poastoak It’s not like I like saying it, I just don’t like being a part of a communal, collaborative lie when they do so much damage.

     If I can prick one 19 yo guys’ conscience with my nagging and get him to throttle back on video games in favor of picking up a technical skill, the hellthreading is worth it

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @poastoak the frustrating thing is you can have both but no one wants it. Australia for example will pay you a survivable amount to skill up with 25 hours a week of education, and it'll do it basically indefinitely as long as you're consistently pursuing higher levels of education than you have previously successfully graduated from.

     @SpaceElf @poastoak I don’t even need them codified, it just kills me seeing guys put so much work into virtual careers w/ no bearing on reality when that same effort could take them so much further in life.

     I’ve seen guys who got really into flight sim games end up parleying that right into a cockpit job, but that same pathway doesn’t really hold for the dude with 2,000 hours in dark souls

     @Bead People are very self-absorbed, to the point I’m often wondering if they’re listening at all. I hold out hope it’s more a factor of their constant inebriation from Rx’s and fun drugs, or the anxiety of dealing with people for the younger ones.

     I had someone pretty close to me ask “what ever happened to that girl you dated a few years back?” as if I haven’t talked about her all the time, made me think most of what I say is filed away as white noise

     @WashedOutGundamPilot I am basically broken at this point to be honest. I don't relate to anybody in real life. It is like the rest of the world is living a completely different life. I have become so dissocialized, that I can't even talk with other human beings any more. You start talking to someone and some switch will flip in their head and they aren't talking at you. It's like they translated into a social media post into real life. It's not like an exchange of idea, but rather they are just stating their opinions on whatever they want to talk about as facts. If you point out something they said is wrong or just a flat out lie, and they just nod and go "uh huh, uh huh," and then spend a second or two justifying or excusing whatever it they were incorrect about with some faux moral justification that conveniently exists just to allow them to still be right. I just check out because they are just mentally masturbating at that point and I don't have the patience to argue with some spiritual jew that just wants to hear themselves speak.
     That's like almost everybody at this point. Just mentally checked out while some boring, unfunny, retard pisses in our ears about nothing.
     
     We are living in hell of later seasons of Seinfeld.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot Meaningful incentives to step away from the screen would help. Millions of manhours were wasted on WOWcraft by men all over but even back then there was starting to be not much reason to go outside, at least from how I remember things. Gotta have room for ppl to rise and for ppl to fall.
     
     Extnded gaming sessions are simply coping mechanisms is what I'm sayin...if there's not much to cope with then i dont think it;; be much of a problem

     @philmchawk Sounds like you’re either missing out on the charisma or the variety part of the equation. The more capabilities you have under your belt, the more likely it is to just stumble on some stranger who takes a shine to you and offers you a new, unseen job.

     Stagnation is very easy to succumb to when you don’t shake up your life and meet new people, maximizing your chances of finding something novel. If I had woodworking stuff, I could have gotten in on the ground floor of a pretty successful business once upon a time, the guy was making bespoke mini travel trailers of some sort, was dying for competent, white employees. AFAIR he was ultimately quite successful in that niche. I only met him because I happened to strike up a convo w/ the guy when my buddy’s shop was locked up, and I was wandering around.

     You’re too early to see the benefits, too. 60 years from now you might look at the gamer chuds and notice you’re the only one who doesn’t have alzheimers. I’m pretty sure a lot of us are going to be utterly lost at a far earlier age than the boomers. I expect to see a lot of millennials coming down with dementia in their 60’s, but that’s a whole other thing.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot I think TV genuinely rots your soul and makes you a passive voyeur not able to enjoy your real life but to pretend like developing a skill will net any tangible benefit is just not true unfortunately. About 10 years ago I stopped all visual media, started reading, writing, going to be gym 5 days a week, woodworking, doing all maintenance on my car, Helping my dad with projects around the house, giving full effort to my job etc etc. I did this for about 6 years until my gym partner moved, the net result was more demand from job, people demanding more from me, minor amounts of money from my side projects, realizing that tides of time change for no man, writing about 1/2 of a book and realizing none of this matters and I'm very very marginally happier than before.
     
     There just isn't a point to any of it, it isn't going to increase your chances of finding a good women by much, it is only going to give you marginal financial gains, it might give you a better job but you are going to be doing much more, the people around you are not self aware enough to actually appreciate what you do for them, and you'll be maybe 5% happier than you were when you enjoyed videogames. TV on the other hand 10/10 would recommend little to zero consumption.

     It's a little surprising seeing otherwise very calm people have full-blown meltdowns justifying how something they do tens of hours a week that isn't necessary for life and doesn't really benefit them doesn't count as an addiction. Like ok, maybe by itself doesn't mean you have a problem, but reacting that hard on a hair trigger to the A-word may indicate that your conscience has been eating away at you over it and you're in denial.

     @SettlerLife Yeah, you need to shake it up then. It’s hard to do it authentically, but any time I felt like life was stagnating for me I got it shaken up by just going out and coming into contact with more people. People are always on the lookout ofr competent men, having skills under your belt makes you a multi-function dude to fill a bunch of roles

     Beyond that I get what you're trying to get at and it hits the nail on the head of some of the gamergate shit. The trouble is productive stuff just doesn't feel compelling for a lot of people even if theres a vague promise of a payoff. I know I've tried getting into stuff and it just goes nowhere. Even spent an entire year off 4chan, didn't really make a difference.
