   I like video games that have native Linux binaries, but dicking around with wine, proton, flatpak bs is such a headache and a pain. I do not understand how some of you put up with it.
   
   Tried running Warhammer 40k Boltgun using both wine and then proton ge and it refused to work. People online claimed it worked with the proton flatpak, after going down that rabbit hole I was thoroughly pissed and flathub didn't even have proton. I don't like messing with the flat crap anyways. So I played the game on Windows with my kids and it was nice. 10/10

     You can add non-steam games to launch in steam, but Idk if it will autodetect what proton profile to use.

     @charlie_root @splitshockvirus i never had much issuse with wine gaming but most of the time i used proton-ge on steam and everything worked, btw can't you launch shit through steam to use proton

     @charlie_root The only time I've ever used flatpak for playing video games on Linux is running the Android binary of Minecraft Bedrock edition. Which was not worth the time because bedrock fucking sucks.

     And to answer " I do not understand how some of you put up with it. " We don't we just run steam in compatibility mode and shit just works

     Yeah, I was running a cracked repack, I don't use steam or have an account with them :sf: 🏴☠️
     
     My experience with using wine or proton has always been rawdogging the commandline and troubleshooting dependencies and winetricks manually. But since everyone these days are doing what you mentioned and or using a steamdeck, troubleshooting wine instructions online are becoming sparse.

     I just don't bother with games that make themselves a pain to run. I don't have enough time to play all the swat:aftermath and din's curse I want, letalone all the FOSS games and other linux-natives I have available to me.
     Why should I put up with some jew corp's latest goyslop that I have to fight against from the outset? I'm not a nigger.

     Yeah there probably is some dumb DRM shit that is breaking.

     I have never referenced wine because wine docs suck. Proton is king shit, Lutris is a good second.

     And Arch linux is the GAYMERS OS, hence why I run it.

     @charlie_root @rohrkrepierer @miscbrains you don't need to use flatpaks or anything as such.. just download the wine-ge-proton in some folder and use the WINEPREFIX environment variable to run it manually from the command-line. there are other environment variables as well like WINEFSYNC,etc for enabling and disabling optimizations. Don't use proton-ge or proton though you would need a steam runtime for it as i have found out.. use wine-ge-proton instead.
