@WashedOutGundamPilot first image makes sense, the only market where using large high capacity airliners on regional flights is asia where certain inter-japan had such extreme that 747s had to be modified specifically for shorter range, higher passenger count flights owing due to how close their largest international airports are to one another. here in the states with how big the US is and how spread out cities are, even the busiest sub 1000mi long flights don't have enough demand to justify using any beyond a 737/A320 at a high flight frequency before being forced to drop flights in order to not bleed money at just fueling and maintenance costs alone. -

@ferrarilegends I think we’re on the verge of seeing a real surge in RJ use, just because they’re finally getting their engine tech & costs down. Embraer has been killing it lately.

@CoQ_10 @ferrarilegends They wish. I think embraer just made a sale for like, 500 jets this week. Saw some mondo deal with them and netjets, and they’ve already sold a couple hundred to them since the boom in 2020

@WashedOutGundamPilot @ferrarilegends I thought the A220 was killing Embraer's E series. -

@WashedOutGundamPilot the E-Jets are especially going to surge even more in use since they have that perfect mix of seating and range to even tackle with the 737s and A320s on the longer-range lower-density domestic flights (something like seattle-san jose) while also being able to compete with traditionally smaller regional planes (CRJs, ATRs) on some busier medium-density short range routes like chicago-minneapolis. Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -

@ferrarilegends It’s weird, but nobody has cared all that much about the smaller commuter market for a while. There are some interesting things on the horizon, like Cessna’s twotter ripoff, as well as a whole thing of hydrogen powered hybrids waiting in the wings. If they can get those things working reliably that will get interesting in a hurry - the costs would be VERY hard to beat for the sub-200 nm niche.
I’m hopefull that it’s gonna work, I love the idea of being able to put in self-sustaining Hydrogen systems at far flung airports to just refuel at your leisure. I’m sure it won’t happen but MAN think about how cool that would be for us.

@Twoinchdestroya @ferrarilegends They’re working on getting it into liquid right now, already working on drones from what I hear. There’s even turnkey retrofits for fixed-wing UAVs (IDK a buddy is always telling me about it so it may be bunk)

@WashedOutGundamPilot @ferrarilegends Hydrogen has the issue of storage

@WashedOutGundamPilot @ferrarilegends But is that the E series, or their business jets? Netjets wouldn't be buying the E series, would they? Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -

@CoQ_10 @ferrarilegends They sold 250 Praetor 500s, so it was the smaller one there. I could have sworn netjets had a couple of the ERJs just for the rare occasions, but it looks like they max out at the 14 seaters. Maybe I’m thinking of someone else, there’s a market out there to steal charters away from the legacy carriers by offering a wider apt network
I don’t pay too much attention to the goings-on of carriers though, so the E-jets success may be hazy to me.

@WashedOutGundamPilot huge if true, if the teething issues for storing and using hydrogen as fuel on planes we might just see an explosion in demand for air travel in that range segment with the fuel costs dropping -

@ferrarilegends I’ll see if he has the name of it. The system was described like a self-contained filler station, where you can trailer it to a field and hook it up to power/water and come back to find fully recharged H2 tanks. For now it’s small scale for drone work, like doing pipeline inspection

@WashedOutGundamPilot @ferrarilegends Yeah, just got this from Aviation Leak:
"NetJets has signed an agreement with Embraer for options on up to 250 Praetor 500 midsize business jets, along with an arrangement for comprehensive services and support.
Deliveries are projected to begin in 2025. If all options are exercised, the deal is worth $5 billion at list prices, and will increase Embraer's total backlog by 29% to $22.4 billion, according to an analyst report by J.P. Morgan." -

@CoQ_10 @ferrarilegends And they just bought more than 100, too. That’s a LOT in this biz. If you went to 2018 and told them they’d add almost 500 aircraft to the fleet in the next decade they’d say you’re insane

@WashedOutGundamPilot @ferrarilegends From my knowledge, liquid storage is much more difficult.
In order for hydrogen to remain in a liquid state, it needs to be cooled near absolute zero and immense pressure needs to be applied. This will be too much weight and unfeasible for small aircrafts.
They can probably make an electroyzer engine, where it constantly generate HHO fuel to be combusted in the engine.

@Twoinchdestroya @ferrarilegends They can probably get it for small scale for now, who knows about later on. The upside of hydrogen is that it’s pretty cheap as far as fuels go, so you can afford to burn it just to keep the fridge going
