Someone correct me if I'm wrong but does this pin on the left mean the E6 who just got murked in Bakhmut was part of US Special Operations Command
-
@weaf
Not necessarily. He could have been gifted the coin by someone who was spec ops.
Personally, I didn't give a shit about collector's coins.
-
@weaf it appears to be a challenge coin from General Bryan "Doug" Brown, who used to command USSOCOM
if fatty was part of special operations I'd guess he was a ranger, or maybe special forces who was quickly medically retired. he's the right age to have come in contact with Brown while Brown was in command

That's just a moto coin. REMFs and POGs treat them like magic relics.
-
@deprecated_ii @weaf rumor on TG is that he's a former Green Beret
-
@weaf
-
@deprecated_ii Crazy how all these vets do their training on the frontline
-
@weaf I think this is his story:

@weaf if he really spent 20 years in, and only became special forces late in his career and never made E-7, he probably wasn't much of a high speed low drag operator
when SF was expanded late in the forever wars the standards dropped off a cliff and lots of mediocre NCOs from across the army were shoved through the pipeline. but they all think they're hot shit, because you can't be special forces without being hot shit, right? so then they do dumb things like go fight a peer war on the losing side
-
@weaf of course his military record may just be a cover and he was actually in the CIA for awhile
"went to spain to teach english" huh
