   I’m entirely convinced that Broadcom is just a shit brand in general to get with. I have to use a PCI wireless adapter from them in order to get Airport working on my Hackintosh and it drops off no matter if I use the 5GHz or 2.4GHz signals.

   On Linux, the drop offs are even worse.

   If you use Linux, just get a wireless adapter with an Intel chip, even if you’re more loyal to AMD. Just save yourself the headache, please.

     @Flaky @cleanycloth Intel nics are the gold standard for desktops and servers too or one of them for a reason.
     
     Realtek on the other hand isn't well liked by driver devs but it's everywhere.

     Yeah. I asked on Reddit a while back because I was out of options. The Intel 9260 seemed to be a solid choice at the time. I’m still using it, I don’t have anything that could use newer Wifi tech so I haven’t bothered to upgrade it. Might look at replacement antennae though, even this one drops because I committed the grave sin of moving my desk (and thus my computer) to get more room.

     Is it one with built-in wifi? I’ve not messed with those, prefer having a wireless adapter I can take out and replace, PCI or USB.

     MediaTek admittedly goes under my radar, but I know Intel and sometimes Atheros (Qualcomm) work great for Linux.

     @Flaky It is, but I believe it’s just an m.2 card stuck in its own slot by the rear IO. At least, every other integrated Wi-Fi solution that I’ve seen is like that.

     I’ve had some blue screens from Qualcomm cards before. Intel has been pretty rock solid tbh.

     @Flaky My motherboard has an AMD/MediaTek branded chip. Works perfectly under Windows, probably works fine under Linux too.

     Got a friend whose laptop has a Realtek chip for wireless. Needs a proprietary driver on Linux that he can’t install, not even on Ubuntu’s Additional Drivers utility. I know that pain.
