     This bugs me, really. Anyone in the online biz space KNOWS stripe is a horrible partner who will drop you as soon as they have reason to. The fact he’s been holding on to them blows me away, it’s just…busch league. For sinking so much money into it it seems like he left all the super important production elements to the most surface level solutions

     @Smirking He’s suffering from what I Identified years ago: He doesn’t have trustworthy, experienced adults backing him up. He’s got himself and a cadre of zero-experience 22 yo kids, so he has to check everything himself to prevent catastrophe.

     They’re shooting their show concurrently with all this shit, so he’s left the jet kid to his own devices to figure all this stuff out. He’s done alright for himself, but he’s inexperienced. He’s learning a LOT of lessons that we all had to pick up the same way. THe fact that he wasn’t smart enough to tap into people’s experiences and learn from their mistakes is unfortunate, but expected for a kid with no experience to draw from.

     It’s just a natural outcome. This is what you get when you’re a hands-on small biz owner and you refuse to pay competent pros to stay with the company. It’s a common thing, you’ll see rich boomers surrounded by nothing but min-wage tards and interns to do EVERYTHING. But when you advise them to hire a 6-figure professional to take the load off their shoulders and give them breathing room, they balk at the price.

     @TeaTootler Yeah, but I don’t totally blame them for that one. An extended hand from an unknown in your time of crisis doesn’t really inspire confidence. If jet were smarter, or more experienced then he would have set that up BEFORE all of this, when it would have been easier to sell on one of the internet’s most shilled-to figureheads.

     Sam’s inbox has been getting thousands of big-talking promisers about alt-tech bullshit for more than a decade - he’s right to be jaded because 99% are utterly worthless. Having a viable streaming option to something that costs $30k OOP seems too good to be true already.

     And, y’know, it’s like 4 people working on all of this. It’s unrealistic to add “researcher” to their tasks when it’s a non-profit-yielding task

     @caekislove If he were more attentive (which he doesn’t have the time to be, again, REALLY needs a deeper bench to pull from. If he were better at being a friend he’d have 2-3 nicks around backing him up. He’d be less funny tho)

     but if he were more attentive he’d have been ready for this kind of thing at least. Like, if I were putting all my eggs in that basket, I’d deliberately make a TOS that falls perfectly in line with the processor’s, and then just make it super easy to make new accounts after a ban. Let people superchat, get it read, then get ‘banned’, then re-sign up with a new one. That way you can tell the stripe faggots that you’re doing everything you can to stay in TOS and all those naughty people are banned the second they show up.

     That at least would be SOME kind of plan, would buy a bit of time. Ultimately you’d still get banned, but a lot of this stuff is about performing the right dance to the tune they’re playing. Like it or not the CC processors are the only way to reliably get money, nobody actually cares enough about the product to buy into the crypto ecosystem and go through 4 layers of KYC just to superchat a TTS line. They won’t even go through with a real good purchase if you make them create an account during checkout.

I don't know why they all do this. Choice A, 60k a month with a loyal fanbase under the radar or choice B chase an extra 20k a month just to be completely blacklisted on the platforms you were chasing the extra money on so you get 0

     @TalmudTranslator @mmmfeet @TeaTootler His fanbase is super cheap though, they don’t pay for shit. They even have a joking line of “aw geez man, five bucks a month? Come on dude…..” People imagine he’s making a lot but it doesn’t look like that to me. Even now, his best year on record, is basically bringing in maybe, MAYBE half a mil on YT on the track he’s at now. And that’s gross pay on the YT charts, so his take-home is something around what an orthodontist w/ a solid practice makes. Take off a 30% youtube cut, 30% apple cut, tax, and payroll and he’s making UMC professional money. Whores w/ email jobs make more than that working 1/4 the amount he does.

     For how big he is in the cultural scene, sam hyde is poor. He’s poor because the audience he caters to - disaffected, weird young men - are ALSO poor.

     Fishtank came out of the gate strong, but I don’t think this enterprise is gonna keep making all THAT much money unless he’s got some whales keeping it afloat by now. 6 weeks is far too long to hold people’s attention. I would have done a month at the absolute max
