   @vriska@lizards.live You'd be shocked at how many people are fooled into thinking that systems are inherently better if cryptocurrency is involved and many of them are "normal twitter and facebook users".
   
   If you subject yourself to browsing nostr, you would be stunned at how many people think zaps to custodial wallets is bitcoin and not know any better.

     @gabriel @vriska They are not "real" users. When the hype subsides they always move to the next thing. This was happening in web3 era, and now this continues with Nostr / Bluesky. Same culture.

     @gabriel no average, normal twitter or facebook user is going to see nostrs 200 character random string text usernames and think "I'm gonna use this site" thats the bigger issue if you want to appeal to a wide demo

     @vriska@lizards.live Fair enough, though I think both nostr and bluesky are different beasts than gab or tiktok. The goals are differnt than just being another social media site and I'd bet on both being around in three years (feel free to call me out on it)
     
     In my opinion, bluesky's weakness is if it can attract enough big names that gets enough people to join, and nostr's weakness is probably relay management, and fragmentation as everyone joins their own l33t paid relays.

     @gabriel name one big centralized commercial social media project that has started in the last 10 years that has not been a catastrophic failure. when was the last time you heard someone mention cohost in a context that wasnt a post-mortem

     MSM will join bluesky
     Alt-MSM will go full-tilt on nostr
     In the long run, The fediverse will be the thunderdome of people who refuse to completely toe-the-line between the previous two camps.
