@warmbeverageenjoyer @Bloomfer @Doll @11112011 @JonnyFever @p @sysrq @lewdthewides @rher @MadDog23 @NonPlayableClown Context is, he entered midlife crisis and cried about no gf in the same post. Latter happenings likely refueled his fire, and he doesn't like refering to that post that much.

@mint @11112011 @Bloomfer @Doll @JonnyFever @MadDog23 @NonPlayableClown @lewdthewides @p @rher @sysrq thanks for the link, ill give it a look over. quick skim is still not fantastic, though.
its whatever to me, i already think his politics are very disagreeable, so it's not like this changes how i view him ("guy who does funni streams on fridays"), but still.

@warmbeverageenjoyer @Bloomfer @Doll @11112011 @JonnyFever @p @sysrq @lewdthewides @rher @MadDog23 @NonPlayableClown And here's a rundown from someone we're very familiar with. I have my doubts about the efficiency, but the gist is the same.

@mint @warmbeverageenjoyer @11112011 @Bloomfer @Doll @JonnyFever @MadDog23 @NonPlayableClown @lewdthewides @rher @sysrq Yeah, I had said a long time back that this cohort has this allergy to principles: they don't have any and they get upset when other people say they value principles, they start trying to "prove" that you don't mean it. They need to prove it, because they have a view of the world that they know is terrible. I've heard the "Principles don't matter! My viewpoint is an inevitable consequence of the material world!" shit over and over again, starting way back with "folk" joining FSE in 2018. It's tedious bullshit. Most people don't have very strong principles but everyone uses some sort of framework to drive decisions they make about ethical questions, principles are just an articulation of that framework. The people that value nothing but their own self-interest are worthless, by definition, if you take them at face value, and their complete unwillingness to consider the possibility that anyone else thinks differently is retarded. You can't really take them at face value, though, because they will fail to act in the hyper-rational pragmatic way they claim. For example, pride: they all refuse to give any ground, admit if they were wrong, apologize, any of that, they'll hold pride higher than their own self-interest. A lot of people will put pride ahead of self interest to some extent: people that are willing to truly humiliate themselves for money are rare, but most people will accept a handful of minor indignities for it. But this group is particularly adamant about it.
Anyway, response is as expected from that guy. He's a cunt.

@p @Bloomfer @Doll @11112011 @JonnyFever @sysrq @warmbeverageenjoyer @lewdthewides @rher @MadDog23 @NonPlayableClown What makes pride not be a part of self-interest?

@mint @11112011 @Bloomfer @Doll @JonnyFever @MadDog23 @NonPlayableClown @lewdthewides @rher @sysrq @warmbeverageenjoyer The same thing that, in their framework, precludes values from being a matter of self-interest. Their framework includes this artificial barrier between things they value and things they do not, the same way some people put an artificial barrier between "natural" and "unnatural", where "unnatural" is anything people do. Lemons, the result of hundreds of thousands of years of human cultivation, are "natural", splicing lemons and oranges is "unnatural". Likewise, in this framework, "pride" is self-interest, "morality" is not. In Eris's retarded diatribe, "do as thou wilt" is self-interest, but extrapolating one level to "if they are willing to screw anyone's freedom, they're willing to screw mine, so deter anyone from trying" is not. It's a shallow, myopic view.

@p @Bloomfer @Doll @11112011 @JonnyFever @sysrq @warmbeverageenjoyer @lewdthewides @rher @MadDog23 @NonPlayableClown Whatever this framework is, it looks like I'm not that familiar with it. Pride is a characteristic of how you view yourself, and by extend how others view you as well. Whether it's worth sacrificing for material gain depends on what yields better results for the wellbeing in the long term. If it's not, then it's a matter of self-interest to preserve your pride. That's how it looks to me without any prior dives in philosophy or sociology.

@mint @11112011 @Bloomfer @Doll @JonnyFever @MadDog23 @NonPlayableClown @lewdthewides @rher @sysrq @warmbeverageenjoyer I'm reasoning backwards from conversations with a bunch of guys that all must have read the same book. I don't know what book it is but apparently, reading it makes you insufferable.
