   I don't understand people who say the economy is going to collapse and the dollar will be worthless - so invest in precious metals. It doesn't make sense. You're trading one currency for another. Neither of which can become food, ammunition, water, shelter, fire, et cetera.
   
   In the event of an economic collapse, I believe the best resources for bartering will be those that are highly sought after and necessary for life. Shelter, food, water, ammunition, firearms, sugar, salt. I feel like those who say one should invest in precious metals are deliberately ignoring the fact that there's a chance there will be no financial backbone to support such trade. So, what you have your 50 ounces of gold. I've got ten gallons of water. Your gold means nothing to me.

     @matty No joke, 9mm rounds have all the advantages of gold in a shtf scenario and a bunch of practical advantages on top of that. They also hold their value better. Only chumps stack gold when they could be stacking ammo.

     @matty People have zero thought when they hear things, they don’t realize that you’re supposed to buy gold when you’ve run out of space in the safe and garage for more guns, ammo, food, water, and sustainment logistics.

     It’s compact and lets you store money fairly efficiently, while supposedly being inflation resistant. Supposedly. Funny how everything else is 40% pricier, but buying a silver eagle costs the same as it did when I was in HS

     @Agartha_Noble @matty I know it’s manipulated, and it’s not fair, but there isn’t much we can do about that. I’ve been hearing the prepper nerds tell me to stock up on silver & gold since I was a kid, even did so to an extent, and it still hasn’t moved much.

     We need to be realistic about it, instead of this sunk cost cult where we keep acting like surely any day now silver spot’s gonna sextuple. It’s enough just to at least hold some value and be fun to hold…as long as you have all the practical bases covered first. The only exception is when you have a real IRL economy to use - and that’s how I initially got into buying it. So far it’s never been able to snag me a deal, people trade it at spot when you want to actually buy with it, so you end up taking a hit on every round.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @matty Doesn't work when you've got large orgs manipulating silver with silver certs. Pretty much any "money storage" is kinda useless in the face of that.

     But looking at countries that have gone to the shitter, look out for food, water, and weapons

     I've heard people say that the gold/silver is for bartering with people who aren't interested in necessities (??? :thunk_smile: ) that it will regain it's value once we get passed said economic collapse, or because it has value in other countries.
     
     In the end, it's, more or less, just an easy way for them to feel secure and placate their fears, instead of stockpiling necessities, and learning the survival skills to protect themselves or make themselves useful after an economic collapse imho.

     @Twoinchdestroya @Imp @matty I've made wine and beer, but never distilled spirits. I was hoping last year I could make brandy from my plum tree, but I only got about a gallon of wine and I think I would have been left with just a tiny bit of brandy.
