   i was just thinking today how it was only in the last maybe eight years that i felt like language was being actively manipulated or exasperated at people playing massive word games or people completely flipping positions within 24 hours when their political masters signaled.

     @Moon Around 2012 I believe you had a huge uptick in culture war bullshit in the media. People blame it at elites being scared of Occupy Wallstreet, but I think elites don't give a shit.

     Like you said though, culture war bs has been going on for a long time, it's just now on overdrive. Even in the 00s you had people whining about "racism" in RE5 or Kane and Lynch game.

     @rude @Moon I wonder if that has more to do with the fact that it is in our faces more thanks to being tuned into technology than we've ever been? There has been a lot of research into this stuff, lots of data collected about our habits online and presumably how we can be radicalised to think a certain way or to believe something is more popular or common than it is.

     @r000t @Moon Does it though? I don't have/remember all the graphs, but in this one, the left one start going up 2013-14 and right one, while shooting up in 2012, is on a steady upward trend from the 70s.

     There's getting the plane off the runway, and then there's setting off rockets to escape orbit.

     The other fitting explanation is the right getting *so* pissed over 2008 that *they* kicked off the culture war. I said in 2015 that Trump will almost certainly win because a large number of his votes aren't votes for him, but a "punishment" for electing Obama.

     So really, pick your poison. Occam's razor suggests the rich got spooked. You should see some of the provocateurs that were sitting in the IRC channels for the occupy stuff. FBI also crawled up my ass for hosting those channels.
