   I love how every time they talk about the whole ALIS/ODIN cloud-connected bullshit they have to mention the fact that the israelis are the only ones exempt from it, allowed to do whatever they want to the design to a degree even the US isn’t.

     This is that article on the Drive talking about how the F-35’s whole “cost saving” JIT parts infrastructure is - brace yourself because this is pretty wild - not a reliable system under stress, even less so against a peer adversary.

     Take a moment and understand that this guy is doing presentations on this, a fundamentally simple, known, “no fuggin’-DUH, dipshit” thing like having a deep stock of spare parts to keep an unreliable aircraft operational. Imagine explaining this to the MIC brass in 1965

     So yeah, we COULD just build and stock more parts…..but what if, and hear me out here:

     what if we make a phenomenally complex cloud-connected AI system to predict parts breakages before they happen (replacing the last complex one that promised to do the same but utterly failed) and then use COMPUTER MAGIC to only make as many parts as we need, when we need ‘em?

     Eh? I’m a genius, huh?

     All of this just astounds me. The simplest, “no duh, dipshit” aspects of procurement and they’re only now admitting failure. But then doubling down on “we just didn’t commit enough, we can do it RIGHT”

     It's supposed to be the cheap mass production alternative to the f-22, but at this point it's a third of the price and by the time all these supply and maintainence issues come in it sounds like the downtime makes it similar in price (measured in terms of dollars per planes actually available to fly missions).
