     @verita84 @graf @Curvin @billy_hughes Honestly the origins of Corn Syrup came from the Sugar industry, because Cuba used to be the primary foreign supplier of sugar and Domino Sugar was extremely pissed off about their assets being nationalized and continue to support the embargo as well as a quota on Sugar imports. High fructose Corn syrup was invented as an alternative in the 1970s because the price of cane sugar is twice what the global market price is.

     @kuon @elftummy @TheEternalBungholio @graf Coca’s got a lot of bottlers down south, seemed like there was one in every country making its own stuff. For places without much corn, it probably comes down to whatever’s simpler to process and cheaper to import. I know for most of rio de plata it was sugar, last I checked. That’s a long way from the states though.

     @elftummy @TheEternalBungholio @graf That's not true, unless the Spanish-language coke at the grocery store comes from somewhere in central or South America. I have seen Mexican coke with corn syrup, they're at least trying to transition to it.
     
     Thing is, while I can find ones with real sugar I can't locate Mexican cokes without the "bioengineered ingredient" anymore.

     @TheEternalBungholio I was buying mexican coke to have whenever I wanted a soda but its like 10$ for 4 bottles. a case of this stuff is like 6$ so if it's just as ok i will buy these instead

     @elftummy @TheEternalBungholio @graf Most I've seen still use cane sugar, but they added in the fetal cell lines from American coke because people only really cared about the cane sugar.
