SEC is withdrawing its litigation against CoinBase.
> I have to give credit here to the Trump administration, for winning the election, and for the departure of the activist head of the SEC, Gary Gensler, who orchestrated this unlawful action along with Elizabeth Warren, and a handful of their lackeys in congress.-

@egirlyuumimain @griffith I am not against all regulation but I think the potential of crypto is so high that I'm really scared of regulation for it at the time being. It doesn't help that 99% of the crypto space is just outright scams. nevertheless, the constant US government threats on the people trying to do interesting useful things with crypto is part of the reason it's like this. -

@sun @griffith @egirlyuumimain that number seems absurdly high to me. Bitcoin alone is most of the crypto space and is not an outright scam. -

@egirlyuumimain @griffith regulation is inevitable but the agency was just harassing companies using threats beyond their legal authority at this time. -

@sun @griffith I am not for it persay. I just know it will happen sooner or later -

@griffith they wanted to regulate crypto to death. the specific thing with the SEC under gensler was they were sending threats to several crypto companies and not even being clear what law or regulation was broken, exceeding their legal authority to create new regulations, etc.
I don't like coinbase and I think some financial regulation is absolutely necessary but the way this was being done was really bad and I'm glad they're ending it. -

@sun @griffith I think it's only a matter of time before they do -

@lain @egirlyuumimain @griffith as I mentioned, the us government aggressively threatened every utility token out of existence so it turns out when you do that all that's left are scams LS likes this. -

@egirlyuumimain @griffith @sun I can’t see the point of lumping it all together in a “crypto space” then. Anyone who reads a book about bitcoin or watches a few YouTube videos about ethereum will know enough to not fall for “get rich quick” schemes. -

@lain @griffith @sun And that's why we have regulations in the first place. Most people will not do this -

@egirlyuumimain @griffith @sun scams are already illegal, no matter if you do them by going door to door or by inviting users to your secret pump discord -

"Regulations" are not homogeneous, i think is Sun's point though.
SEC:
:geordi_nah: Do literally anything about 10,000 shit coin rug pulls
:geordi_yeah: Devote massive resources to crushing LBRY for no discernable reason except that Odyssey actually has some user adoption
It's the same anarcho-tyranny playbook the Soros DAs got: let bad actors cause chaos at will while using the state to crack down on good actors.
