     The ED page, the news stories, and later the bill passed outlawing "conversion therapy" in the state of Ohio doesn't get to the magnitude of how much of a martyr he was. The story is this; his parents didn't approve of it and tried to get him help. So he decided to really pioneer the trick of "killing yourself for the cause", he walked in front of a semi and got splattered. Not long afterwards, the trans lobby made sure to let you know who he was and Ohio became the first state to outlaw "conversion therapy".
     
     But for years, he became a propaganda piece. "Let your kid transition bigot or he'll kill himself", and just like how CVille or GamerGate or the NZ shooting was mentioned to push a specific point, so was this suicide. This was common as the infamously false 41% meme statistic came into being because of it being pushed by the media:

     It is true that they do commit suicide more and that they commit suicide even more after transitioning to an axe wound.
