@Rasterman @agaperealm @EvolLove The Zulus did not mine. They used surface deposits of laterite (rock with mix of iron oxide and aluminum) they found in wet forests. To be fair they were able to smelt it into a very shitty, low-grade steel to tip their assegais (stabbing spears) but forging fully metal weapons or armor was far beyond their capacity
