How the fuck are meme tokens a fad in 2025? How are these things any different from the ICOs, the altcoins, the ERC20s? Instead of launching a PoW chain people are literally just minting the dumbest shit they can imagine and people love it.
There are legions of dead altcoins that actually tried (at least in theory) to do something. Meanwhile people are buying DICKBUTTFART unironically.-

@crunklord420 I bought 1 SOL because I thought people wouldn't stop being retarded. I was right and I got something out of it, but it just filled me with disgust. now I can't wait for it to die. -

@goatmeal wtf is it? I looked at their defi and it's all meme coins. They don't even have normal stuff like WBTC/USDC perps. Why is this on this chain as opposed to any other one? -

@crunklord420 it's really sad but I'll tell you. they made a smart contract blockchain that scales with big blocks so that they don't have to worry so much about UX issues. they are okay with it growing 50 TB a month as long as the users aren't burdened with questions like "which L2 am I supposed to use?" basically it's min/maxed for really really dumb people.
I also think there is a culture of creating shill armies, not just for individual memecoins, but for the chain itself. they went around and spammed the usual places, promoting solana with lies and half-truths. it worked really well. the ethereum community doesn't do anything like this, and they don't mind taking the hard path with scaling, even if it leaves us with unresolved UX issues for a while. this is why the dumb people couldn't be bothered with arbitrum or polygon. too many little traps that can hurt a dumb person, like the same address and key being able to function on several networks at the same time. they can't handle that.CrunkLord420 likes this. -

@goatmeal @i Arbitrum is my L2 of choice. Not all exchanges support it, but you can cross-chain swap between Polygon/Arbitrum very cheaply and quickly. GMX and liquidity pools is all you need.
I just noticed that ETH transaction fees have dropped massively. -

@i @crunklord420 fees were solved on ethereum by trading it for a different problem. you have to make sure that your ETH goes to one of these L2 networks where it is cheap. 90% of existing users are already doing that, but for new users, it's still too confusing. solana won this round by making sure dumb people can use it without getting confused. -

@goatmeal @crunklord420 plus with fees at a hundredth at a cent instead of 20 bucks, there's no reason not to push the shitter as far as it can go before the validators btfo -

@crunklord420 @i L1 validators voted to increase the gas limit recently. this is kind of a bad thing. people keep thinking they can fart around on L1 and use it normally. it's meant for whales settling large transactions or people deploying infrastructure. a normal person isn't supposed to use L1.
I hope that the L2s just sort of become invisible one day. normal people shouldn't have to think about this stuff. -

@goatmeal @i Bitcoin should become an L2 of XMR. -

@crunklord420 @i what I really want is for bitcoin to have proper rollups where I can do defi and stuff. they have rootstock, but it is a federated sidechain and it requires too much trust. and nobody uses it. there can't be any actually good L2s on bitcoin until some more soft forks get activated. and a lot of people hate it an want people to be forced to interact with bitcoin through a custodian. -

@crunklord420 @i a planned upgrade to XMR enables L2 networks. I don't know how good this will work and I didn't try evaluating it yet -
