     Well it's been sitting powered off in a case for several months so it's currently dead.

     Charging it up to see.

     I know early Graphene was not terribly efficient but I seem to recall that battery life wasn't terrible.

     And if you want to run a highly secure phone OS, Graphene is about the best and it only runs on Pixels.

     @dcc @WilhelmIII @cowanon it seems like it was aimed at pixel a4 phones whose batteries were already pretty fucked and should not affect people who have not degraded their batteries

     a lot of people will let their phones discharge most if not all the way to zero over and over and refuse to listen to the tech person in their family tell them that every time they do that it massively decreases the health of the battery, no matter how many times I tell them

     but non-retarded people should be fine (so, a lot of people are fucked)

     Well on the standard OS it ships with, you could either use Waydroid to run the Android version, or go find a Linux app that does what you want. This is the whole point, it literally runs the same desktop Linux apps that you get on PC. It just runs a mobile optimized shell that stretches apps to full screen and provides a keyboard and so on and so forth. https://flathub.org/apps/search?q=signal

     The Signal Linux app requires Signal to be installed on a phone, either Android or Apple.

     But if the Android version works in the emulator that would be fine.

     I'll do some digging and see if anyone has gotten it to work.

     I need to know if Android version of Signal works with waydroid.

     That's my only mission critical app.

     I run a Linux desktop so I figure I can make everything else work. But Signal requires a functioning phone app and then the Linux desktop app is sync'd to that.

     Yes, Waydroid is literally just a copy of Android running in a virtual machine. Even 3d games work. It has full internet access and sound.

     Whatever happened to framebuffers man, the Sharp Zaurus had a nice Qtopia based shell that ran in a Qt framebuffer directly. Opie. And it had a gtk / x11 thing too, GPE. There were more apps for Opie

     I'm currently on an Android with Verizon, but I'm about to make a move off of it.

     Some time back I bought a Pixel 3aXL to test GrapheneOS and it worked okay but life got busy. And then it went end-of-life.

     So, now in the market again and looking at my options. I'm leaning toward a newer Google Phone, a Pixel 7 or 8 and Graphene since it seems like the option with fewer question marks about compatibility with the set of apps that I use.

     But I really want a Linux phone to be a thing that works well. So far, I'm not seeing that it's really ready. Getting better, but for my primary phone, I need something that works, not a lab toy.

     I ran GrapheneOS on an older model and it worked fine.

     The problem was that I bought a nearly extinct model for very, very cheap for testing.
