     @TrevorGoodchild @Bad_Banner I remember hearing that back in the wild west outlaws were given the choice of death by hanging or firing squad. Not sure if that’s true but I like that policy

     @DW2 @Bad_Banner Hanging is tricky to get right if you don't want them to strangulate, which is a prolonged and very painful process. Firing squad is quick.
     
     Bullet to the back of the head (cervicomedullary junction) is actually the fastest and most painless method. Instant loss of awareness, like turning off a light switch

     @TrevorGoodchild @DW2 @Bad_Banner Hanging IS tricky which is why they had actual hangmen. They weren't just brutes. They had several ropes of varying thickness & length. A quality hangman would select the proper length & thickness of rope for the condemned.
     
     They knew based on how tall & heavy you were the correct thickness to support your weight, and the distance you'd need to fall to properly snap your neck first try.
     
     They also traveled town to town so as to not be compromised, get attached to the locals, and or be ambushed and killed as a form of revenge or to delay the hanging of a prisoner to help them escape. It's an extremely fascinating and underappreciated job.
