@raccoon Yeah, because it blows a hole (haha pun) in the theory that the underlying reasons this happens don't just magically go away with gun laws. † top dog :pedomustdie: likes this. -

Just like banning drugs won't make drugs disappear, people do and will always do illegal things, including buying guns.
But regulations will make things happen less.
I'd take a shooting every other year and every day.
It's not like in Italy I can't have guns, period. I could, I'd have to pass some checks first.

@phnt @raccoon At face value yes. But I think (at least in the US for comparison) there is severe distrust of the regulating authorities for programs like this (e.g. ATF) because if you give them an inch they take a mile. They also can't come to consistent definitions on anything (see: SBRs).
My opinions on this have morphed over the years from "We should have a well regulated gun program in the US with sufficient background checks, certifications, courses, etc. to validate a prospective owner's sanity and abilities scaling upwards with the destructive capability of the firearm" to "Nothing in this country is well regulated and it isn't getting better, so remove all restrictions so I can have my fun rooty tooty shooty sticks, and summarily execute anyone who misuses that responsibility".
Perhaps other countries are run better and can implement sane and fair programs like that. But certainly not here. That ship has sailed.† top dog :pedomustdie: likes this. -

@raccoon @7666 There's a very simple solution to all of this. Adopt the Czech gun regulation. Basically don't hand out firearms licenses to retards that don't pass a simple psychology test that checks if your are suicidal, have physically violent tendencies, etc and are almost record-free in a police background check. Problem solved.
I can own most guns excluding rocket propelled launchers, cannons and grenades/grenade launchers, but basically everything else is allowed and there are some exceptions to this. I think it's a good compromise.
