     @koropokkur @ElTigre @professionalbigot69 I’m good, thanks. All we have is air-cooled shit in the piston craft and the reliability just isn’t worth the fuel thirst. In the older light cars they did okay, but with shitskins plaguing the roads anything sufficiently armored would end up getting 12 mpg. Even planes are moving away from air cooled, it’s one of the few places we can cut costs anymore.

     @ElTigre @koropokkur @professionalbigot69 Preventive maintenance is what carries most of the load anyways. When you compare something on the smaller end, you basically cut fuel burn in half. So you can go for something that burns 4.5 gallons an hour, or 8, while having to cart something a lot bigger in the nose that reduces payload. Once you go slightly bigger it gets even worse, then you have stuff burning 14 to 20 gph, and when you fill up in coastal faggot zones that’s $9/gal. Not many places to reduce cost elsewhere, it’s all been optimized

     @ElTigre @koropokkur @professionalbigot69 Most of those advantages are wasted for us, gotta have an A&P to do the 100 hrs anyways. The reliability is nice, it’s the whole reason we keep them there, they’re just bulky and gutless. They seem okay until you try modern engines and then see how much better it is with something smaller, lighter, and faster.

     And the reliability is probably not gonna last forever, either. Continental just had a whole issue where brand new engines were built wrong, would grenade w/in 250 hrs of factory new. For a car buyer, it’s ehhhhh. I don’t think the tradeoffs are worth it, considering you end up with something slower, heavier, and less survivable in a crash (or, in a new super heavy car, even slower)

     @koropokkur @ElTigre @professionalbigot69 All those got great milage because they were light little tin cans where the whole car is crumple zone. We don’t have the luxury of driving around in beer cans to get 50 mpg anymore.

     You get lightly tapped by an ethiopian driving uber for the first time and your entire life is now ruined, w/ vicodin addiction, nerve damage, and a crippling disability….but hey think of all the money you save on gas!

     In actuality, if we could make cars that light then our mpg would blow theirs away, they’re way more efficient w/ liquid cooling, fi, etc. We just don’t see it because they have nowhere to shine

     air cooled vw engines for the beetle have been getting 30+ mpg forever.
     the motors are basically bulletproof if you keep them maintained.
