     @dcc @ins0mniak I don't, no. I don't want one. You ever see that SNES ROM that was able to cause a buffer overflow in zsnes and execute arbitrary code on Windows? I don't want to run any Windows software on this machine, especially if there is a possibility of it attempting to talk to the network.

     @ins0mniak @dcc The way the PS2 and GBA did backwards compatibility was cool: they just included the previous hardware (a MIPS in the PSX and a custom Z80 in the Gameboy) and the new system used that as the I/O controller when running a new game or just as the main CPU when running an old one. The DS did this with the GBA, too: the old ARM 7tdmi in the GBA is a coprocessor for the DS, but not directly programmable.

     @realman543 @ProbablyAnotherSuiAlt @Sui @Suis_Runaway_Benis @dcc @ins0mniak @pernia I have built and installed Shockolate to play System Shock and still haven't played past the beginning of the game. I figure Deus Ex is 25 years old and very beloved, someone is likely to make it possible to play on Linux using an open-source engine by the time I finish System Shock.
     
     The point of mentioning the zsnes thing, and then maybe say, Spectre and Meltdown and Rowhammer, is that there's not a good way to provide a trusted execution environment to run arbitrary code. I could probably get a Windows, I could probably run it in Wine in a copy-to-RAM distro in a machine with no disk; I don't really wanna. I probably will just get a PS2 copy some time and until then, like, I don't want to spend a lot of effort on entertaining myself.
     
     Also Windows software killed my dad.
