   The implication behind the expression being that the reasoning being explained is complex when there is a much simpler truth available.

     weak-brained person: wow I can't believe you went through SO MUCH EFFORT to think that. My falsehood was much simpler.
     
     terms like this are seeded into the popular imagination by the secret elders of the estate of the Arthur Conan Doyle, to discourage new competitors to the Sherlock Holmes franchise, in the same way that farmers spray farms to kill weeds that would compete with crops.
