   I bought the DevTerm. This is a delightful device from my perspective but it is not a device that everyone will love for every purpose. It fits my purposes just fine: nice screen, nice keyboard, decent enough mouse device (and three buttons), so I can use drawterm and/or ssh and just work on the device, and I like ARM. Even the RISC-V one is fast enough to work fine for my purposes (except that if I need a conventional browser for something, I have to use a different machine).
   
   At some point, I will probably end up doing the "handful of 18650s and a small screen and keyboard and trackball and an SBC in a terrible homemade case" thing that is popular nowadays and then I'll start getting arrested at airports and whatnot.
   
   Those two paragraphs are probably a long way of saying "I see laptops in anno domini $current_year and I refuse to touch them".

     It is not. I can do what I want with a laptop; it is not intentionally crippled by the manufacturer unless Apple is the manufacturer.

     And a locked bootloader, and a shitty OS that the manufacturer wants to keep you from rooting, and shitty input device. (I'll deal with a shitty input device if I can run what I want, but see remarks about the PinePhone.)

     Stop confusing "I use it" with "It is good". If you go to McDonald's and someone says "That shit is shit, it's no good for you", you don't say "Actually, this is healthy food and a responsible use of money". I smoked cigarettes for years, not even once did it occur to me to claim that they actually are good: "Fuck you, I'm addicted. I smoke to keep you safe, not to keep myself healthy."
     
     I say it's a shit device and you tell me to make a different device, which has nothing to do with the question of whether or not it's a shit device. It is a shit device. Case in point, you and Jonny both have had a reduction in capabilities because of your use of these shitty devices.
