     The “Ur-Pooner“ is a great turn of phrase. IDK what it is about this whole thing, it’s fascinating to me. So distinctly alien, given its origins.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot It makes sense. From start to finish, most trans stuff is self hate, but for women it's probably worse.
     
     Most men who are trans, at varying degrees, are not simply trans because of an autogynophilac fetish (though that's a big part of it), but want to be women because in modern culture they are seen at some levels as virtuous and morally superior. However, what men don't get the full picture. To be masculine implies that you are an abuser, but to be feminine is degrading. You see this with things like Barbie's tag line of "You can be anything". The implication is that just being a cute girl is demeaning.
     
     Women grow up hearing that men are bad, just like the men, but they also are constantly told that being a woman is almost worse.

     @caekislove @Elliptica That’s what’s funny - they don’t know how, to them being a man is just style. The guy they imitate, a caracature, is just the women seeing a guy who’s comfortable in himself, unconcerned about the opinions of others, and just happy living.

     They think dressing like him, getting tats, and talking like him will grant them his same, innately male self-assurance. It does not.

It's guys who have done bad things, or just wasted their lives, and want to start over as something other than what they are - this is also why they LARP as children or teenagers. The short-term fuel for it is porn - generally stems from a humiliation fetish and mutates from there, lots of common causes between the two driving impulses.
     
     FTM is a bog-standard social contagion. The TV talks about it, the computer talks about it, the teacher talks about it, and it cuts through them like crazy. The young ones just want to please their adult authority figures (also true of male child trannies); the older ones equate it with social capital within their group. Some do it for fetish reasons but that's mostly played up by people who don't want to acknowledge that men and women are different.
