   This is important to note, but the thing to understand with Eugen and his trademark is that if you call your fork anything other than "Mastodon" he can't do shit, as his software is GPL licensed. Or just use Pleroma/Misskey/any of it's forks.

     @PhenomX6 I think it means that any fork can't use the "Mastodon" brand. Mozilla has a similar trademark with Firefox, iirc.

     Also if you run an instance called Mastodon or with it in the title and move to a competing software Eugen will be angry, this happened with the one tech mastodon server.

     Yep, the thing with Eugen is he wants to be the CEO of the Mastodon Network (tm).
     
     The good thing is calling it the Mastodon Network deflects flak from us, which means that it throws off people writing hit pieces like the famous "Mastodon pedo" article.
