   for background: I've got this technique for the Death Generator called RAVFE (it's just Reverse Automatic Visual Font Extraction, don'tcha know) where the details aren't important, but it involves running an emulator several hundred times.

   I installed a very nice and fancy python progress bar library (alive-progress on pypi) and it made my programming progress go DOWN.

     because the RAVFE thing involves writing a bunch of code then sitting back and watching it work, and fixing it if it doesn't.

     The problem is that alive-progress gave me "average time per iteration" and "ETA to completion"widgets on my progress bar.

     and faced with the hard numbers telling me that my emulator-iteration was Slow, and that it was gonna take Forever to complete the whole run, it made me want to optimize it all that much more.

     So I'm boredly looking at the good while all those iterations are slowly creeping by, and I figure out how to optimize it. If I change that emulator setting, the FPS doubles. if I change where I'm injecting into the game, it can happen (virtual) minutes earlier...

     but then I have to restart the run to start using the new code!

     And for reasons, this makes it lose progress, and it has to restart.

     so instead of taking 45 minutes to complete a run, it spends 20 minutes doing it at 45-minute speed, then it restarts and now is doing it at 30 minute speed! so it'll take... 20+30... 50 minutes.

     sometimes I then figure out a new optimization and get it down to 20 minutes. But I figure that out so late that it's now even longer!

     the progress bar was just so helpful that it inadvertently made the experience worse, because it triggered my adhd boredom by reminding it that "hey, if you're bored, why not optimize that program?"

     @gkrnours It has such code, actually! it just also has code to automatically restart if I modify the core script.

     @foone maybe for next time, add code so the loop remember its progress and can restart where it was stopped?
