     @pwm @shibao I said it before and I'm saying it again: I support the death penalty but the government does not have the right to carry it out. The sentence should be "remanded to the discretion of the victim's family" and let that be that.

     Personally I'd rather we raise the bar for felonies and just kill all felons 3 seconds after conviction.

     @shibao @prettygood putting a cap is, unfortunately, giving permission to commit n - 1 felonies, which, if in my hypothetical were raised such that it were things like armed robbery, murder, etc. I'm not fine with. One and done; stay in line. That works so long as the bar for felonies is itself "ridiculous" crimes against humanity.

     Consider: if you rob Walmart, who gives a shit, that's a misdemeanor. Robbing a rich person? Also no fucks given, sorry. Robbing a regular ass citizen? Instant death, removal from society.
     
     Why? Because you have harmed your peers, the working class. You are actively working against yourself, and the man standing next to you.

     @pwm@lab.nyanide.com @prettygood@socially.drinkingatmy.computer i'm not sure it really works like that for these kinds of people. but think about it, literally a tiny amount of the population (this graph points out 0.1%) are committing an absolutely huge portion of crimes. why are their sentences not greatly magnified for their extremely proven history? judges already do this shit unofficially, "oh it's your first ticket we'll knock that down" but this doesn't apply to murder for some reason?

Argentina is currently in a congressional war with the ruling party trying to implement them and the leftist party desperately wanting to stop them; all of this because as you point out, getting rid of repeat offenders massively reduces crime.

     @nerthos @pwm @shibao My state (Kentucky) has these laws, basically "persistent offender" laws where if you offend persistently you get a much harsher treatment. I have no problem at all with this for the record.
