     Not a good idea, she’s treating YOU like your sole purpose is to act as a battery for this woman’s life now. She sees an upstanding rube at church and feels like you’re a perfect chump to slot into this woman’s garbage fire of a life and turn it all around.

     I wouldn’t get into the picture if the dad is anywhere still in the picture, particularly a deadbeat. Sorry, I don’t want to give my children a mom who would screw one, let alone reproduce with one so they have a half-brother/full-fuckup parasitising them all their lives under the idea that he’s “family”

     @professionalbigot69 No idea, never met the woman or the kid. Just out of the blue a woman at my church asked me if I’d like to meet her.

     I had been praying to God for better luck finding a wife, but my gut is telling me no.

     I know given my past I don’t deserve some virgin 18-yo bride but I’ve seen too many guys get burned by single moms.

     @john_rando @professionalbigot69 I'd trust your gut. But I do know someone who married a single mom (they were both divorced) and have had more than 20 years of great marriage (and a kid of their own) together, retired now and still happy with each other. It can work out, but it seems rare.

     @eee Well the kid is 11. I don’t know how long this woman has been involved with dead-beat dad but it makes me wonder, if she’s such a great catch why hasn’t someone snapped her up sooner.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot Yeah, being an upstanding guy sucks sometimes. But I wasn’t always a Christian and I wasn’t born yesterday. I’ve seen too many guys have their hearts ripped out by women like this.

     @john_rando I’ve been in this position a lot, to the people trying to set me up I just honestly tell them I can’t bring myself to do it, I haven’t yet seen a guy marry into a single mom’s life from the outside and think to myself “yeah, I could happily live that life“

     You’re right on the precipice of her kid needing all the expensive teen shit that comes with. Soon enough “don’t worry I’ll pay for all his stuff” gives way to convenience, and now all your bills are tripled, and he just crashed his second car because he was smoking weed with his friends again

     Also I refuse to take on a child who calls me by my first name. Screw that.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot It kinda irritates me that the woman said that God spoke to her about this. He didn’t speak to me about it.

     My pastor warned once in a sermon to be careful when someone tells you God spoke to them about you. Especially when it’s something that YOU have to do…

     @WashedOutGundamPilot I’ve seen the flipside too. Growing up I was a unicorn because my parents were still married while most other kids were either children of divorce or single moms. And then their mom gets into a relationship with a man, they think, “finally I’m gonna have a daddy!” only to be crushed when the relationship goes sour.

     Was watching some wildlife doc, and it showed a lion or leopard killing the male offspring of his mate’s prior king.
