I really doubt you can accurately position your fingers to 25.4mm accurately, while I can position my fingers to 20mm accurately.

You can trivially cut 20mm in half to get 10mm and again to get 5mm, or even add or subtract whatever number of mm to want to get 6mm or 15mm.

Being limited to 0.25in, 0.5in. 0.75in, 1in is quite sad and results in poor accuracy.

1 Litre == 1000mL and you can get the exact volume of liquid you need, whether that's 12mL, or 234mL or 500mL or 12 Litres or 1020mL.
