Italian Skeleton (italianskeletongaming@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Nov-2024 16:08:20 JST Italian Skeleton @itsfoss Switched my gaming laptop to Bazzite OS while waiting for the platform agnostic release of SteamOS, Windows 11 actually started getting in the way of my gaming routine, everything is fine for now, but I am afraid for proton compatibility down the line, and I don't want to think what will happen to my main rig when Windows 10 will reach its end of support life

Sorro 🐍 (hi_im_sorro@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Nov-2024 18:24:28 JST Sorro 🐍 @itsfoss i feel like that video will be true for many people who switch this year by adding one word: "i do not (want) recall"
my specific case was that windows 10 was running awfully slow because it was running on a HDD (even if the processor was a decent 2 ghz quad-core), windows 11 was unsupported and then I heard linux has better performance on games and I thought the steam deck's desktop mode looked nice, so I gave it a try and... well, here we are now, no windows in any machine I use

玄鹤 (xuanhekim@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Nov-2024 21:22:51 JST 玄鹤 @itsfoss I have a tendency towards minimalism. I don't like having things in my system that I don't use, and I especially don't want a bunch of services running without my knowledge. I want my system to be streamlined and efficient, and I want to customize as much as possible. In fact, I didn't realize that the desktop environment could be changed until I left Windows.

P∆sc∆l I'm who I'm, 🌎 is 🔥 (theholypumpkin@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Nov-2024 18:53:58 JST P∆sc∆l I'm who I'm, 🌎 is 🔥 @itsfoss A Cities Skylines Asset from the Workshop had GPU-Memory leaking on Windows (probably DirectX). Because starting the game takes 15-20 minutes with all my assets multipled by thousands of assets was more work then switching to Linux 😁.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@urusai.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Nov-2024 20:52:41 JST Nazo @itsfoss For me it was Windows 11. Like, just everything about 11.
10 was already horrible. I pretty much need third party solutions or a heck of a lot of time tracking down registry entries to keep it from basically sending MS my social security number and a feed of my bathroom. 11 is tough even to clean with third party tools and registry entries and judicious blocks at the router firewall...
Then they started backporting some of the bad stuff to 10 along with Copilot. I'm scared even to let my systems update anymore. MS may be less safe to trust than random hackers on the Internet.
And now they're trying to force out Recall even after everyone said no so hard they had to pretend to change their minds once before. I'm done. I'm just done. I finally made the true switch.
