Ardainian Hebrew Israelite (ardainianright@detroitriotcity.com)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Nov-2024 15:10:19 JST Ardainian Hebrew Israelite Been thinking about the moral and metaphysical implications of different magic systems in fiction, and have come to the conclusion that Disney Star Wars is satanic. In traditional George Lucas Star Wars, the Light Side of the Force requires submitting yourself to the transcendent and divine, whereas the Dark Side corrupts this transcendent power for your own selfish ends. Thus there cannot be a "gray Jedi" or any kind of coherent power drawn from outside of those two sources, you have to pick a side. Disneywars pushing the idea of a "gray Jedi" is promoting the satanic lie that you can have your cake and eat it too when it comes to the supernatural. - Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this.

Correct. In the West End RPG system the “dark side points” were a stain on the character’s soul equivalent and not easy to reduce. Each one presented a real chance of falling to become an NPC. Staying with the party would not be an option. Halfway between good and evil is still evilArdainian Hebrew Israelite likes this. -
Discount Jens (jens_rasmussen@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Nov-2024 06:11:43 JST Discount Jens @ArdainianRight Star Wars had "force sensitive" individuals, which would be people who have the capacity to do magic, before Disney took over.
I do not believe your premise that the Force Magic is sourced from someone's submission to the trancendent and divine is correct. -

Light Side Force Magic is. Force sensitive individuals can choose to align with the cosmic order or reject it. -

It borrows from different sources and influences, but the basic moral lesson of the movies is consistent with traditional religions in that aligning yourself to the natural cosmic order is good, and opposing it leads to long-term pain, even if it promises short-term rewards. -
WhitestTemplar (whitesttemplar@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Nov-2024 06:15:14 JST WhitestTemplar @ArdainianRight Star Wars is a little more complex than that, and I am not even talking about the midichlorian bullshit that came from the prequels. Rather the Force is more like Yin and Yang. Two opposing sides of a single entity that seeks balance, which is why dark side users always come back. It is the Force itself seeking balance so in reality if you wanted the Force to be balanced, but have no Sith, you'd actually basically need everyone to be "Grey Jedi," which in the EU was actually the standard in the very early days before the Republic. Je'daii Order and all that. -
Ardainian Hebrew Israelite (ardainianright@detroitriotcity.com)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Nov-2024 06:18:03 JST Ardainian Hebrew Israelite @Jens_Rasmussen Dark Side force users obtain short-term power at a price. The Force per se can be used in different ways, but using it correctly will benefit you in the long run, while using it incorrectly will harm you. -
Discount Jens (jens_rasmussen@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Nov-2024 06:18:04 JST Discount Jens @ArdainianRight If you reject submitting to it, then you should not have the power to command the magic that relies on your submitting to it, but dark side force-users do. -
Christi Junior (christijunior@detroitriotcity.com)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Nov-2024 06:19:46 JST Christi Junior @ArdainianRight Rey uses actual Sith powers like Force Lightning, I don't think we ever saw even Anakin use that shit, it strikes me as evidence of a character having fully embraced the Dark Side. That shit is total fanfic territory and shits on established lore so hard. Rey uses Force Lightning because of her blood relationship and moral alignment goes right out the window. -

"oh dark magic isn't evil per se, haha"
oh wow how exciting, what a great way to tell stories about the human soul

In a way that is a good analog for modern Faustian morality, in which extracting any advantage to make line go up is good, regardless of the cost to the human soul.Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -
Wolfgirl in Wheatfield (wgiwf@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Nov-2024 07:05:53 JST Wolfgirl in Wheatfield @WhitestTemplar @ArdainianRight Most of those "grey jedi" would be more aligned with the light than the dark, the Dark Side being the path of seeking personal power taken to its logical extreme, but not necessarily following the Jedi Order's autistic and dogmatic system of morality and life, the jedi taking obvious influence from post-war Christian thoiught which decries killing criminals and supports a sort of rudderless do-gooderism that denies meaningful self-actualization. -

Ignoring the Jedi Council in favor of following the living Force is still light-side aligned. -

I mean, there is a certain real-world religion based off autistic rule-following and ruthless loophole exploitation devoid of moral considerations. -
Wolfgirl in Wheatfield (wgiwf@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Nov-2024 07:12:28 JST Wolfgirl in Wheatfield @ArdainianRight @WhitestTemplar Yeah. The Jedi Order often didn't see it that way though. There were no shortage of jedi in the EU who left the order due to the many failings of it and never embraced the Dark Side.
There is a clear moral superiority to the Light Side but it's often rendered in a kind of two-dimensional way that many of the less well written works fall into. A lot of the "grey jedi" you see in games and such are often a critique of that overly simplistic morality.Ardainian Hebrew Israelite likes this. -
Christi Junior (christijunior@detroitriotcity.com)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Nov-2024 10:09:22 JST Christi Junior @ArdainianRight Disney Star Wars #3 was just all kinds of retarded - Force Healing existing just straight up invalidates Anakin's whole journey to the dark side (obviously the Chosen One would have been able to save both his mother and his wife from dying with that shit), and Palpatine's force lightning having a big enough AoE to solo an enormous star fleet, while NOT being capable of overwhelming a couple of lightsabers makes even the dumbest DBZ shit look sensible in comparison. Christmas Coon (mebigbrain@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Nov-2024 12:23:59 JST Christmas Coon @ArdainianRight It's based on Eastern mysticism, note how "The Light Side" and "The Dark Side" are unified as both being sides of "The Force." The idea that this force is inherently good is the same error the Jedi make in the prequels, they thought that "balance to the force" meant a final defeat of evil when it actually meant the Jedi would be massacred since they vastly outnumbered the Sith. So the divine isn't good in this setting, it's neutral, and gray morality was the message all along. (I'm not disagreeing with you, btw, I think that Eastern mysticism is satanic, but that might be a different conversation) -
Hot Karla's Korn Klub (k@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Nov-2024 12:23:59 JST Hot Karla's Korn Klub @MeBigbrain @ArdainianRight No, 100% misreading. It is based on Eastern mysticism, but "balance" in Eastern mysticism doesn't' mean having equal parts good and evil, it means there are no impurities present within nature that disrupt the harmony of masculine/feminine.
"Balance" might not be the stagnate rule of the Jedi, but it certainly isn't the rise of the Sith either. The Sith are "imbalance" by their nature, whereas the Jedi are an incomplete iteration of the ideal balance, just like monasteries IRL.Ardainian Hebrew Israelite likes this.
