Like, a CBDC is just a credit card with higher maintenance costs. The control mechanisms it enables are already enabled for anyone that would adopt it and most of those who wouldn't. Most damningly, the government isn't nearly competent enough to implement one without it being an Obamacare-tier disaster.
It's something some think tanks might talk about, but there's next to no chance of a serious implementation, and no chance of a successful one.Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -

Right now they only have so much control over the monetary supply, changing it into a “digital dollar” allows them to add a control panel with hundreds of knobs to tailor it to their gusto.
Right now, they don’t have too much need, but I betcha they’d love to have a knob that allows them to “expire” government funds or limit certain money to closed systems. those two alone would probably be worth the trouble, and as long as the branding of the CbDC is good enough, it wouldn’t be any diff. than what we already have.
