   @raccoon @Amkiel @xwyqi yeah like I don't blame people for thinking it's the entire network because they are being deliberately misled. I also don't blame them for not caring or wanting to avoid nerd software drama, but I personally can't let it go

     Also this type of mentality continues the deception that mastodon is the entire network.

     @raccoon @Amkiel @xwyqi mastodon was objectively better in nearly every way to GNU Social, the platform it largely eclipsed to dominate the Fediverse. But from the very beginning it engaged in deception to present itself as the entire network

     Nah, people aware of other platforms often just use mastodon as a synonym of fediverse. It's not a good thing because most microblogging alternatives on the fediverse are actually more feature rich than mastodon. Mastodon became as popular as it is only because it's dev talked about it TONS on twitter.
