     I have a very hard time believing someone is able to bridge afghan culture with shitpoasting subculture so effectively.

     Still haven’t seen anything to indicate he’s legit, either, so we need him but I wouldn’t expect too much out of him other than being funny

     @matty @BobsonDugnuttHB @mao_yat @sandman I have some embryonic suspicions I’m saving ‘til I look into it a little more, too. I find it odd that the “taliban PR account” comes out of nowhere and gets the convenient timing to blow up in popularity. He’s the only point of contact on the search for MI6’s pet roamer, while nobody even mentions the supposed rescue operation over there.

     All the press about his ‘disappearance’ refers only to the twitter account for a source, which is odd. You’d think someone would make some calls to verify it.

     It’s probably nothing, I’m just tying string to thumbtacks because a few things are standing out to me.

     @Eiregoat @matty @BobsonDugnuttHB @mao_yat @sandman I thought his rise was somewhat forced. He’s young, aimless, and allowed to come to and from from an active war zone during one of the regime’s most embarrassing downfalls.

     I’ve been in contact with the sorts of guys that do that shit abroad…. he has a whiff of that smell. Doesn’t mean he’s a spy or anything, just that he’s probably got some phone numbers and some ‘requests’ to give them a call under certain conditions. It’s a give and take, making friends like that.

     Could be. If I were asked to plan an op like that I'd send a journalist. Have him "publish" some extremely anti-western pieces before he goes and publicly say nice things about the taliban. Then ask the locals to introduce him around so he can write more pieces.
     
     I'd probably pick someone in their 40s or 50s. Young enough to get around but old enough not to look like a threat and not to do anything particularly stupid.
     
     I wouldn't pick a teenager purely because they're not particularly reliable or independent.

I don’t think he’s trained, they didn’t put him through the ESCON (IDR the term) course to turn him into a foreign service guy, he was too young for that.

     But I CAN see him being contacted with a “hey kid, I’m uh….well connected, here are some areas of interest we’re really curious about. If you see anything, ask around and get me the details, you’d be doing a service to the country. And if you ever get in some trouble, gimme a call and I’ll see what I can do”

     That’s how a lot of ground assets work, when they’re americans, b/c we’re dumb enough to work for free/patriotism. Sending fat old men are a horrible choice, people assume they’re glownigs (because they are) and no amount of tommy bahama shirts and underage sex-tourism washes off the “that american is CIA” stink.

     Young, friendly white boys with a handsome face are charming & disarming, a wonderful asset to have even if they aren’t specifically tasked with something.

     @1967GTO @WashedOutGundamPilot @matty @BobsonDugnuttHB @mao_yat Most Taliban are volunteer fighters, that means that there are people educated in English. The reason why is because many Afghan/Pak became disillusioned with their armies and joined Taliban.
     
     My Grandfather was a Pak Army Veteran who fought against the Russians, my father joined the Taliban and was martyred, and I joined because I had to provide.
     
     The Taliban understood this, my people understood, and that is why. When my father died, we didn't have anyone able to look after us.

     Hell, most people over 30 have difficulty understanding the jokes, particularly the phrases in use with underground interests online
