     Perl can do anything PHP can do, you just invoke it differently
     
     PHP is in fact derived from Perl
     
     The question is what your website needs
     
     Some pages are static, some are generated... ok, so what interval?
     
     Some pages need updates periodically
     
     Some need instant updates
     
     It's complex but you dig the thinking thing so I think you'll do fine
